"For J's" Spaghetti and Meatballs

Meatball Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 3/4 lb Ground Pork
  • 1 tsp  "For J’s" Garlic Sea Salt
  • 1 slices Bread soaked in 1/6 cup Milk or Water
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 3 Garlic Cloves, minced fine
  • 1/2 small Onion, small dice
  • 6 grams Fresh Basil, chopped 
  • 2 tsp Corn Starch
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil, for cooking 

 

Spaghetti Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 Can (15 oz) Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Can (14.5 oz) Diced Tomatoes
  • 1/4 Cup white wine
  • 1/2 Small Onion, small dice 
  • 10 Garlic Cloves, minced 
  • 2 Tbsp Olive oil
  • 15 grams Fresh Basil, chopped
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp "For J’s" Garlic Sea Salt

 

 

Optional Ingredients:

  • Grated Parmesan or Pecorino Cheese
  • Basil to garnish

 

Instructions:

Meatballs

  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 slice of  bread with 1/6 cup of milk or water and set aside. 
  2. In a large mixing bowl add: ground beef, ground pork, "For J’s" Garlic Sea Salt, bread from step 1, 1 egg, black pepper, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 small onion diced, chopped fresh basil, and corn starch. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form 6.5 cm to 7.5 cm meatballs (12-16 meatballs) and set aside.
  4. Heat a large pot (6 quart pot) on medium heat, add olive oil. Add meatballs into the pot, cooking in batches so as to not overcrowd the pot. Sear meatballs for 6-8 minutes, turning every 2 minutes. Set meatballs aside on a plate, repeat till all meatballs are seared. 

 

Spaghetti Sauce

  1. In the same pot you cooked the meatballs in, add olive oil, minced garlic, diced onion, and basil on medium heat and cook till onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add white wine, cook for 3 minutes to cook off alcohol. 
  3. Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, vanilla extract, sugar and "For J’s" Garlic Sea Salt. More sugar and salt can be added to taste. Heat till it starts to bubble.  
  4. Add meatballs into the pot, turn down heat to low and let simmer for 1 hour. 

 

Spaghetti

  1. In a separate pot, boil water for spaghetti noodles or favorite noodles. Follow instruction for desired doneness.
  2. Drain pasta and set aside. 

 

Assemble 

  1. Place pasta into a bowl and add meatballs and sauce on top.
  2. Optional: grated parmesan or pecorino cheese on top and some fresh basil.
